On March 21, 2023, 41-year-old Steven Cozzi mysteriously disappeared after entering the men's restroom at his law firm in Florida. He was never seen again, and his body has never been found.

More than three years later, a 47-year-old plastic surgeon named Tomasz Kosowski has been convicted of the lawyer's murder. He was found guilty of first-degree murder and faces the death penalty. He represented himself during the murder trial.

According to court records, Tomasz filed a lawsuit against the Laufer Institute for Plastic Surgery, his former workplace, in 2019 because of alleged billing errors. Steven was one of the lawyers representing the institute.

Tomasz became angry with Steven. The situation escalated when Tomasz tried to get Steven removed from the case. He accused Steven of tampering with documents.

In January 2023, Tomasz called Steven a "scumbag" during an encounter at Steven's law firm. Steven's husband was concerned for his safety. He even bought pepper spray for Steven and encouraged him to hire security if he had to meet with Tomasz.

These conflicts were what motivated Tomasz to plan Steven's murder. Months before the murder, he stalked Steven at his house and his law firm. On March 21, Steven arrived at his law office as usual.

He entered the men's bathroom at around 9:50 a.m. It was the last time anyone saw him alive. His keys, wallet, and cell phone were left in his office, and his car remained in the firm's parking lot.

That same day, video surveillance footage captured Tomasz entering the law firm and leaving with a cart that he pulled over to his vehicle.

The prosecution stated that Tomasz killed Steven in the restroom. He used a paralytic drug and syringes to carry out the murder. After loading a heavy covered object into his truck, he drove away from the law firm.

The vehicle was traced toward a remote dumpster near the Tamiami Trial, where Steven's body must have been disposed of.

Investigators found Steven's blood and a mix of Steven's and Tomasz's DNA in the restroom. Tomasz's fingerprint was also found in the office building's break room, which is not usually accessible to the public.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Tomasz's home and discovered evidence linking him to the crime. He was arrested at a traffic stop a few days later. At the time of his arrest, he had nearly $300,000 in cash and two passports in his possession.

A black duffel bag in his car contained duct tape, masks, lighters, scissors, flashlights, brass knuckles, a folding knife, a taser, a crowbar, and a syringe with a paralytic drug.

During the murder trial, he argued that it would have been "physically impossible" for him to lift Steven, who weighed about 190 pounds, into his truck.

Tomasz Kosowski was found guilty and is facing a life sentence without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. He will be sentenced this month.

Steven Cozzi's remains have never been recovered, and the exact manner of his death could not be confirmed.
