If you got dumped, but your romantic partner cried about it for hours on end and proceeded to kiss you on the lips, how would you feel?
Five months ago, this 29-year-old woman started dating a 35-year-old guy who is socially awkward, methodical, and hardly shows emotions. He can get super self-conscious around her, even when something isn't really a big deal.
"Recently, he decided to end things, saying he no longer felt what he thought he should. When we met to discuss it, I calmly expressed that I genuinely liked him and was sad about losing what we had," she explained.
"He then cried intensely for approximately two hours, which was completely out of character for him. He hugged me tightly, asked to keep walking when I was ready to leave, and repeatedly stayed physically close to me, while I remained relatively calm."
As he sobbed, he reassured her that she did everything right and his decision to dump her had nothing to do with anything, really.
After she responded to what he said, he didn't address the breakup again, though he did say he was dumping her before they had that whole conversation.
Upon bringing her back to her house, this guy still had tears streaming down his face. She handed him a little drawing she made featuring a special moment they had shared in their time spent together.
He gave her a tight hug and kissed her multiple times on her lips. Hardly an hour later, he sent her a text to say thank you, and they carried on a normal chat.
In the six days since she got dumped, they have been speaking from time to time, and he has not spoken of the breakup or that night.

"My main question is if he might now feel embarrassed or exposed. I personally don’t find crying embarrassing, but given how controlled and self-conscious he normally is, could crying so intensely in front of me make him feel awkward about seeing me again, replay the evening in his head, or even wish the ground would swallow him up?" she wondered.
The better question here is: why is she still talking to him at all after he made it clear he doesn't want her? And why did he spend hours with her after dumping her, only to fail to give her closure?
I don't think he knows what he wants, and she should stop wasting her time on him.
What do you make of the breakup?
