Dating apps can be a great way to meet new people, but sometimes, the person who shows up for a date looks nothing like the one you agreed to meet in the first place. One woman learned this lesson the hard way.
When TikToker Chelsea (@chelseabellee) was in her twenties, she got catfished a couple of times, which is sadly a common dating experience.
This one time, she went on a date with a man who turned out to be 55 years old and looked nothing like his photos online. Fortunately, she came up with a deliciously petty way to make sure he wasn't having the time of his life, either.
They met up at a restaurant in the mall. She didn't see the guy when she walked up. He was supposed to be 28. She looked around and saw an older guy who kept glancing between her and his phone. That guy ended up being her date.
They went into the restaurant and sat down. He talked about health and fitness and planned on ordering the salad with the steak, which was apparently proof of his healthy lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Chelsea was busy figuring out how to escape the awkward situation. Luckily, there was a potentially easy out. She realized that she could probably get out of the date by ordering something that he would surely disapprove of.
So, she decided to order the lobster macaroni and cheese. It didn't take long for her plan to work. He made a disgusted comment about the dish she ordered, which only confirmed that she made the right choice.
At least she could enjoy her food, even if the company left much to be desired.
"When I tell you that his interest in me went completely away, and he was on his phone the rest of the time," recalled Chelsea.

"He wasn't even sitting in his chair. Like, he was standing most of the time. He would be standing on his phone and was being so weird and very uninterested. We weren't even conversing at all."
After eating their meals in total silence, she thanked him for dinner, and they never spoke to each other again. Looking back, Chelsea was satisfied that her unconventional strategy had helped her get through the evening.
"If I had to sit through a dinner with somebody who's going to pretend to be 30 years younger than they are, then I'm glad that I was able to gross him out enough to not like me," she stated. "I'm glad I was able to make this a torturous experience for him as well."
When it comes to dating, honesty matters. Misrepresenting your age and appearance creates an uncomfortable experience for everyone involved.
@chelseabellee Forgot to mention, he made a comment of discussed about the mac & cheese, which reassured my order lol #catfish #storytime #datefail
