If your mother-in-law kept on inviting your spouse's ex to family parties behind your back and snapping photos with them, how would you feel?
Two years ago, this 30-year-old woman married her husband, and they have a four-month-old baby together. She always viewed her mother-in-law as controlling, but thought their relationship was alright. Her mother-in-law talked a big game about them being a big, happy family.
Three weeks ago, she was at a barbecue when her husband's cousin mentioned being excited to see everyone at the most recent family dinner.
She questioned her about it, and the color drained from her face before she told her to talk to her mother-in-law. Not wanting to cause a scene, she opted instead to dig through the family group photos, hoping to get a clue.
Well, she found a lot more than she bargained for: her husband's ex was in three photos taken within the last six months.
"She was my husband’s ex-girlfriend, the one he was with for four years before me, standing right next to my mother-in-law, smiling, with her arm around her," she explained.
She wasn't invited to any of them, as she was told her baby needed rest, and they were tiny parties. She brought the photos to her husband, who insisted he had no clue that was even going on.
Her husband had been too busy at work to attend the dinners. She then called her mother-in-law to confront her over the phone, but she didn't get an apology out of her.
"...She said the ex was 'like a daughter' to her, that she had never liked how fast we got married, and that she had only been keeping the door open in case things did not work out between us," she added.

"I told her that was disrespectful to me, to my husband and to our daughter, and that she was no longer welcome in our home until she apologized properly and stopped contacting the ex about family matters."
"She cried, called me dramatic and insecure, and said I was keeping her granddaughter away from her over some photos. Now my husband’s aunts and two of his cousins are messaging me, saying I am tearing the family apart, and one of them said I should be grateful my mother-in-law helps with the baby at all."
Her mother-in-law messaged her yesterday to say that she's going to drop by on Sunday with her entire family so they could settle this for good.
Her mother-in-law has also suggested that she knows something her husband has to hear. She doesn't know what that means, and her husband is saying he will not open the door if her mother-in-law shows up.
She's left wondering if she's a hero for looking to protect her marriage, or if she's a jerk for cutting her mother-in-law off.
Sounds like her mother-in-law has been trying to sabotage her marriage and keep her husband's ex in rotation. I would never speak to her again if I were her, and that's not too harsh at all.
