On August 22, a disabled senior pit bull named Baby was left without a way to walk after her specialized pink wheelchair was stolen.

According to the animal rescue, Pittie Party of Central Florida, someone had taken the wheelchair right off the organization's porch.

The Pittie Party of Central Florida cares for hospice dogs with advanced behavioral or health needs. Baby is a hospice resident at the rescue, and she cannot walk without her chair. She also has difficulty going to the bathroom on her own without her chair. The device cost about $800 with shipping.

Now, the rescue is scrambling to figure out how to get Baby moving again. The local police department is asking the public for help finding Baby's missing wheelchair and identifying whoever took it.

"Please help us reunite Baby at The Pittie Party of Central Florida with her specialized wheelchair," said the St. Cloud Police Department in a statement.

"If you have tips or information about where it is or who has it, please call us at 407-891-6700.

In addition, the rescue started a fundraiser to replace the wheelchair and cover medical expenses for Baby. As a hospice dog, she requires regular medication, supplies, and hands-on care, all of which can quickly become expensive.

"We are also fundraising for Baby's continued medical care, medications, and supplies. She requires a lot of physical and financial support. Funds will be applied to all areas of her care," wrote the rescue.

Then, there was some good news. On August 25, the rescue announced that an organization called Ruck9 had stepped in and ordered a new pink wheelchair for Baby.

The rescue offered to refund donations that had been made toward purchasing a replacement wheelchair. It will also share an update when the new chair finally comes in.

While the replacement is a huge relief, the original wheelchair has still not been recovered. On Facebook, commenters were furious that someone would steal a mobility device belonging to an elderly, disabled dog.

"Whoever stole the chair, I hope they really needed it. It's a specialized wheelchair, so I don't know how another dog could use it, but stealing anything, especially a mobility aid, is inexcusable and hope someone gets a lead to catch the person," commented one person.

"That is horrible! Once you get another chair, install cams outside and maybe keep the chair inside/in a storage building or hide a tracker on the chair," suggested another.

"I'd never leave something of such value on the porch, especially if the porch is accessible. People are awful, and some genuinely look for things they can easily take. Half the time, they don't even know what it is!" exclaimed a third.

If you want to support Baby's medical care, you can contribute to the fundraiser.
