A stray German Shepherd mix was spotted living in a cemetery in Virginia by a man named David Reitz after he arrived there to take a tour of the property.
David was worried about the dog, so he continued to come back to the cemetery in order to give him food and water. Eventually, David managed to capture the dog, who is being called Lucky, and get him over to the Norfolk Animal Care Center.
Lucky has been vaccinated and examined, and he's approximately three-years-old. Although Lucky is no longer living outside in the elements, it's been challenging for him to feel safe around people.
Lucky is characterized as shy, but he's not aggressive at all. He just needs more time to warm up to humans, and the Norfolk Animal Care Center is currently searching for a foster home to place him in.
"I’m raising funds for Lucky, a stray dog I found living at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, VA. It was not just me helping him, but a group of concerned dog lovers who came together for Lucky," David Reitz wrote on a GoFundMe page he created for the pup.
"We helped trap him and cared for him while he was out there, and now I’m trying to do everything I can to give him a real chance at safety and care. Right now, Lucky is in a shelter, very scared, and may be euthanized if help does not step in. After seeing what he has already been through, it is incredibly hard to know that his future is still so uncertain."
"I started this fundraiser because I don’t want Lucky’s story to end there if support can help change what comes next. Donations will go toward the things he needs most: boarding, vet costs, training, and healthcare. That support would make it possible to get him the care and stability he needs instead of leaving him without options."
David went on to say that any unused money will be given to multiple non-profit rescues.
