TikToker Jess (@scaredwithjess) tells fictional horror stories on her page, and here's a creepy one about a dead grandmother's voice calling through the house.

When she was 16 years old, her grandmother passed away. They were extremely close. About two weeks after the funeral, she woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of a voice talking downstairs.

She stayed in bed, listening, then shot bolt upright when she heard her grandmother say "Honey."

"My grandma was the only person who called me that, not just the word, but the way she said it," said Jess. "The same voice and the same little upward sound at the end. I remember staring at my bedroom door, thinking there was absolutely no way I had actually heard that."

The voice called out to her a second time. She immediately started crying because she was terrified. She wanted to believe it was her grandmother, but she knew it wasn't. She got out of bed and opened her bedroom door. The voice became clearer, and it was coming from downstairs.

She took a few steps toward the staircase but stopped abruptly when she realized the voice was actually coming all the way from the basement.

She backed away from the stairs and ran to her parents' room. She shook her dad awake and told him that she had heard her grandmother's voice downstairs.

"Then, the voice carried up from the first floor," said Jess. "My dad didn't ask me anything else after that. He just listened. My mom woke up, too."

"And then, the voice said my dad's name, except it wasn't the same name everyone called him. It was his childhood nickname his mom used when he was little. I had heard it maybe once in my entire life."

Her dad got out of bed because he wanted to look downstairs. The family walked to the top of the staircase together. They could see part of the kitchen in the dark. The basement door was closed.

Her dad called out to her grandma. For a few seconds, nothing happened. Suddenly, her grandma's voice ordered him to come down.

She sounded slightly annoyed, as if she had been waiting for him. Her dad took one step down, but her mom stopped him.

The basement door slowly opened, but no one was near it, and the kitchen was empty. Her grandma's voice came through the opening.

The voice said, "Please come get me. Why did you leave me there? You said you'd stay."

Her dad backed away. He was terrified. He told them to go back to the bedroom. Before they could move, something began to climb up the basement stairs. They watched, but nothing was there.

The basement door swung shut. From behind the door, her grandma's voice demanded that someone open the door. When no one moved, the voice laughed softly, just like her grandma did. All of a sudden, the basement door started shaking hard.

The family ran out the front door, got into the car, and drove to her aunt's house. The next morning, her dad went back to the house with her uncle. The basement was empty, and nothing appeared to have been disturbed.

After that night, they never heard her grandma's voice in the house for years. Her dad refused to talk about the incident until she became an adult.

"The night my grandma died, he had been sitting beside her hospital bed for hours," said Jess. "He knew she was close, but at some point, he couldn't handle watching anymore, so he stepped out."

"He went downstairs, sat in his car, and cried. When he came back up, she was gone. He had promised her earlier that night that he would stay with her."

Somehow, whatever was in the basement knew exactly what to say to make him come downstairs. Fortunately, he held his ground, and the whole family was unharmed.
