Every family has a family secret, and TikToker Anna (@proudmama227) found out at 12 years old that she was the family secret. For 12 years, her entire family lied to her about her parentage. The truth only came out when her stepsister told her.

Anna was spending the summer at her dad's house. One day, she got into a fight with her dad. She locked herself in the bathroom with her stepsister to blow off some steam.

When she said something about how she didn't understand why her dad treated her this way and that she didn't even look like him, her stepsister revealed that he wasn't her real dad.

Apparently, her dad's best friend, Mike, was her biological father.

Anna called her older brother and asked if their dad was her biological father. Her brother paused, and the silence told her everything that she needed to know.

When she came home from spending the summer at her dad's house, she confronted her mom about it. Her mom claimed that she was going to tell her at the end of summer. However, Anna realized that no one had planned on telling her anything until she was an adult.

"Every single person in my entire family has lied to me, from my siblings to my parents to my cousins to my aunts, uncles, and grandparents," said Anna.

"I have trust issues with regular people, and it's probably because the people I was supposed to be safe with never actually respected me enough to tell me the truth."

Anna's dad and his friend Mike no longer talk to each other ever since she found out about the family secret. However, they have both stuck by the family instead of leaving.

In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own family secrets. They knew exactly what it was like to be lied to their whole lives.

"I think I'm my uncle's child, but he was married, so my dad took the fall. My mom was sleeping with both of them, and my grandma slipped up and told me my dad wasn't my dad one day," commented one user.

"My son's father didn't find out his 'dad' wasn't his real dad until he was 23, and one of his siblings told him out of spite. Everyone knew except for him! Eight years later, he still doesn't know who his dad is," wrote another.

"I was the family secret for 28 years. Sister turned out to be my biological mom, and everyone in the family except for the kids knew about it. But I'm the bad guy because the secret came to light. Crazy how they don't think we have a right to be mad about having been lied to our whole lives," shared a third.
