About six months into her dating her now ex-boyfriend, TikToker Courtney (@courtort) agreed to take in his family dog, Bruno. At the time, the dog was still at his ex-wife's house, and he was staying at a rental property that didn't allow pets.

One day, his kids told him that Bruno, a German Shepherd, would have to be rehomed or given away. Come to find out, someone had come onto the ex-wife's property, and the dog bit the intruder in the front yard.

The case was taken to municipal court, and there was an order for the dog to be rehomed outside the neighborhood.

About three days before Bruno was supposed to be rehomed, the kids begged their mom to let Courtney take him in. Courtney agreed, but could not guarantee that she would be his forever home.

She had actually fostered a German Shepherd before, but it was way too high-maintenance at the time.

So, they slowly transitioned Bruno to Courtney's house. She was nervous because she had two young kids, and Bruno had bitten someone before.

It all went well, and about a month later, the transition was complete. At one point, Courtney was out of town for work. When she returned home, she found a note on her door from her now ex-boyfriend's ex-wife.

The note read, "I just want to let you know that I met with the judge and prosecutor in this case regarding Bruno, and there have been reports that he has been seen in this neighborhood, and that is directly against the court order."

"And just so you know, your name and number are on all the paperwork, and you will be held liable if anything happens or if he is seen again."

Courtney didn't sign any paperwork, so she called the lawyer and asked about it. The lawyer told her there was no paperwork. She called the municipal court, received a case number, and requested the records.

A couple of weeks later, she followed up and was told that the case number didn't match any case. Regardless, Courtney ended up with the dog.

She and her boyfriend have broken up since then, and they agreed that Courtney would keep the dog.

In the comments section, many TikTok users shared their own dog stories and showered German Shepherds with praise.

"I am ironically watching this as I'm sitting in the City Hall parking lot because my boyfriend and I are probably breaking up soon, and I am getting the dog licensed in my name," commented one user.

"I had a German Shepherd for 10 years. We rescued him at four and put him down last year. He was the best dog ever. They are pack dogs, so probably why he bit, being territorial," added another.

"I had a German Shepherd for 12.5 years. She was a very well-behaved German Shepherd. My vet loved her, too. I always got compliments on her disposition," chimed in a third.
