A guy asked TikToker @lostinatlantis1 out on a first date, and he offered to cover the bill ahead of time, which initially seemed gracious and gentlemanly.
They planned to go out for dinner and a movie. Everything appeared to be normal at first. However, when they sat down at dinner, he ended up ordering one meal and splitting it with her.
"He didn't even ask me what I wanted or if I was okay with that," said @lostinatlantis1. "Just proceeded to tell me that's what I was eating, like I had to eat off his plate."
She tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and thought that he may not have been very hungry. But in the middle of dinner, he told her not to order anything to eat or drink at the movies because he would not be paying for it.
When they got to the theater, he decided that he couldn't get through an entire movie without a drink, so he bought himself a soda and offered to share it with her. That wasn't exactly the romantic gesture he thought it was.
"I just met you," said @lostinatlantis1. "I don't share straws with my best friend. Like, I'm not sharing a drink with you. Plus, I don't even drink soda. You're not even going to ask me if I need a bottle of water or anything?"
He did pay for her movie ticket at least, which cost $12, but that was it. Beyond that, he didn't buy her a meal, a soda, or anything else.
Many TikTok users couldn't believe how quickly the date went downhill and shared what they would have done in her shoes. And apparently, controlling what your date eats and drinks is not an isolated experience.
"I would have ordered my own meal, asked for a separate check, and bailed on the movie," stated one user.

"I wouldn't have been there for the conversation about the movie. As soon as he didn't even ask what I wanted to share with him, I would've been out the door," declared another.
"I probably would have ordered a meal and gotten up to go to the bathroom, then bounced, so he would have gotten stuck footing the bill," commented a third.
"I was on a date with a guy one time who told me I can't have a beer until I eat all my dinner," added a fourth.
While everyone has different expectations when it comes to paying and sharing food on a first date, communication is important. If someone agrees to take another person out, it's a good idea to actually ask what their preferences are beforehand.
What would you do if you were on a date like this one?
