If you were dating someone you loved who slept with someone else amid their mental health struggles, would you still want to hang in there with them?

This 26-year-old man started seeing a woman, and he ended up quickly falling in love with her. She's a new mom with an infant daughter, and it didn't take him long before he pictured his future alongside the two of them.

He's been dating with the intention of building a family; he's not on the hunt for something casual or a fling. However, from the start, things were challenging with this girl on an emotional level.

She's not the best communicator, and she pulls back when things trend in a serious direction. She even revealed to him that she's terrified of getting hurt.

Additionally, she's experiencing postpartum depression, so he's been quite sympathetic about her shortcomings as their romance has progressed.

He's been the one putting in the maximum amount of effort, making plans and initiating their conversations. He often worried about not feeling secure with her and was terrified of losing her.

"Recently, we had conflict, she pulled away, and I noticed she’d returned to Tinder. Eventually, she called me and told me she’d slept with someone else," he explained.

"I was devastated. I’d been imagining a future with her and her daughter, and suddenly I was questioning whether any of it was realistic."

She said she regretted her actions and that being physically attracted to a man isn't the same thing as feeling a connection with him.

She went on and on about wanting a man who could show her respect and loyalty. She claimed to desire a real relationship while still making herself and her daughter a priority.

He's not trying to dismiss her struggles as a new mom who is battling postpartum depression, but she's been wearing him out. He's tired of questioning if this girl actually wants him or not.

He's so done that he wants to stop seeing her, even though he loves her and can't quit thinking about what they could have together.

"Part of me desperately wishes she’d fight for me the way I’ve fought for her. Another part of me knows that love alone doesn’t make a relationship healthy," he continued.

"So, [am I the jerk] for walking away even though I know she’s struggling, or am I justified in choosing myself after everything that’s happened?"

"I genuinely wanted a future with this woman and her daughter. I’m not trying to punish her. I’m just hurt, confused, and struggling to let go of what I thought we could have been."

Yeah, she's not ready for a serious relationship even though he is. It doesn't sound like she showed much interest in him from the start, so why has he been wasting his time on her? This has to stop.

If she really liked him, she never would have ended up in bed with another man.

What advice do you have for him?
