There isn't exactly an instruction manual for finding love, but when it comes to dating, there are a few basic rules that can make it a little easier to navigate.
For one, it's important to put in reasonable effort. You don't need to dress formally most of the time, but showing that you made some effort for a date can be a good sign of respect.
It's too bad that one woman's date didn't seem to get the memo. One time, TikToker @4emom agreed to go out on a date with a guy, only for him to show up wearing sweatpants. It was strange, considering that she had a skirt on.
She had dressed up for the date and had expected that he would have made a similar effort to look presentable. Apparently, he had a different approach to the dress code.
He proceeded to tell her that he recently underwent back surgery, which kind of explained why he was wearing sweats. So, she decided not to judge him too quickly. Unfortunately, the conversation did not exactly improve from there and was considerably harder to excuse.
During the date, he told her that the highlight of his entire month had been finding turkey meat on sale. He bought it at 47 cents a pound and had been eating it for weeks.
When the date was officially over, he delivered one final comment that changed the tone of the night: "I don't even know why I date when I have these," and held up both of his hands. Needless to say, she was immediately disgusted.
While he may have intended it as a joke, it clearly didn't land that way. Instead, it left her wondering why he thought that was an appropriate thing to say to someone he had just met, especially to a woman he was supposed to be trying to win over.
"Dating is strange, and men say things that I do not find appropriate," said @4emom. "I'm still hopeful, but I've had horrible dates over the years. My bad dates are entertaining to others, not to me."

And honestly, that's the unfortunate reality of dating. What eventually becomes a funny story to tell your friends can feel absolutely miserable while you're actually living through it.
At least @4emom can say that she gave the date a chance. She got past the sweatpants and the turkey story and made it all the way to the end of the evening before discovering exactly how questionable his sense of humor and personality could be.
Hopefully, her next date is with someone who knows how to dress for the occasion, has better conversation topics, and realizes when a joke has crossed the line.
