As a wedding photographer, TikToker Heather (@heatherwangphoto) has seen her fair share of wedding chaos, but she recently experienced one of the most dramatic events of her entire career.
The groom cut off his own finger after attempting a champagne-sabering tradition. She found the severed finger and helped save the day.
Champagne sabering is a celebratory tradition where someone uses a large saber or sword to cut off the top of a champagne bottle. The original plan was to do the champagne sabering right after the couple made their grand entrance.
The groom was understandably a little bit nervous about using the champagne saber since he had never done it before. He ended up deciding not to do it.
The night continued on with dinner, a toast to the newlyweds, and cutting the cake. After cutting the cake, the groom was feeling super amped up and decided to do the champagne sabering after all.
"So, the groom holds up the giant sword to the champagne bottle and proceeds to do the sabering," said Heather. "He also missed and cut off his finger."
"It was insane. The whole crowd was kind of in shock at what just happened. I had no idea what to do. The vendors had no idea what to do. He ran off and was being administered care."
While the groom received medical attention, Heather had another problem to deal with. She began checking the floor for glass shards, not wanting any of the guests to accidentally step on the broken pieces and hurt themselves.
Then, she came across something that was considerably more alarming than shards of glass. The groom's severed finger was lying in the grass.

She knew she couldn't just leave it there, so she ran the finger over to the groomsmen. They took it to the hospital to have it reattached to the groom's hand.
"Now, you probably would assume that the wedding would be over, but the bride and groom put a lot of effort into a really beautiful day and a really great, expensive guest experience for all of the people who came to join them," said Heather.
"So, their one request was for all the guests to continue to party and have a great time, and that's exactly what they did."
About an hour and a half later, the bride and groom returned and made an epic grand entrance. The crowd reportedly went wild over seeing them come back to the wedding.
The bride did an outfit change, and the groom had a bandaged middle finger. He apparently decided to embrace the absurdity of the situation, jokingly flipping people off with his injured finger for the rest of the night.
In the end, the wedding may not have gone according to plan, but it was certainly unforgettable. They'll all be telling the story for years to come.
@heatherwangphoto This was truly one of the most memorable weddings I’ve had in my career!!!! #champagnetoast #weddingstorytime #weddingday #CaliforniaWeddingPhotographer #weddinghorrorstories
