In December of last year, TikToker Katherine (@kathjay89) hit a rough patch with her fiancé. Before that, they had been together for six and a half years. They traveled, built a home, raised two cats, and were fully in love.
So, they both owned small businesses, and a lot of bad stuff started happening to Katherine all at once. She dealt with people stealing from her and a fraudulent investor. During that tough time, she didn't really feel like her fiancé was there for her.
"I just felt like I was alone," said Katherine. "And previously, I'd spent a lot of time helping him through his dark times or difficulties when he went through them, which he did. So, it just felt like he couldn't help me, but I would always help him."
She brought it up to him, but he already was not the best communicator and wouldn't talk to her about it at first. Later, he told her that he was unhappy with the way things were going. Their relationship wasn't what it used to be. However, they were supposed to get married in six to seven months.
They decided to work on their relationship together. They went to Italy to visit their wedding venue, did wine tasting, and toured the area. After that, she felt like they were back on track and in love again.
In early July, he went to Scotland for his bachelor's party. When he returned, he acted very cold toward her. She thought something had happened at the party.
Soon after, she went on a residential retreat to help her lose a couple of pounds before the wedding day. While she was away, he was texting her as usual, so she didn't think there were any issues.
She returned home nine days before the wedding. He helped bring in her bags and went to bed without doing or saying anything else. The next morning, he got up at five to work out. She waited all day for him to come back.
When he still hadn't made an appearance by 8:30 p.m., she called him and asked when he would be home. He finally arrived at around 9:30. She pressed him to tell her what was wrong, and he admitted that he didn't want to get married.

"He would never have been forthcoming with this information," said Katherine. "I think he would have just sailed through the wedding, and I don't know, cheated on me, or we would have had a divorce or whatever."
It was seven days before the wedding, and everyone had already booked their flights to Italy. He avoided eye contact with Katherine and refused to answer her questions.
The next morning, she drove to her appointment at the dress shop in a flood of tears. She realized that she would never wear the wedding dress she had picked out and ran out of the shop.
When she got home, her fiancé was packing to leave for a job. He didn't even help her cancel any bookings or inform the guests that the wedding was off.
He left her with her mom and sisters to clean up the mess. Katherine didn't see him for three days. Katherine and her family decided that the show must go on. They would still throw a party and make the best of a bad situation.
"He didn't even have the decency to phone his own family to let them know what had gone on," said Katherine. "My mum had to do it. My mum had to phone his mum and tell her that it wasn't happening."
So, Katherine, her family, and friends proceeded with the three-day wedding event without the groom and his family. They enjoyed the welcome dinner and a pool party.
It was a great time for everyone. Afterward, Katherine went on her honeymoon trip to the Amalfi Coast with her mother. Now, she's settling into her new life as a free and single woman.
